Part of the epic documentary series examining the origins and development of the Holocaust and Nazi Germany’s attempt to destroy the European Jewish population. This volume looks at the final liberation of the most notorious of the Nazi concentration camps, Auschwitz. When the Red Army arrived at the camp, Captain Alexander Vorontsov was leading a camera crew that captured the first appalling scenes as the true extent of the Nazis’ crimes was revealed. That footage is presented here uncut and unedited.

During Britain’s “darkest hours”, the German Luftwaffe and flying bombs caused devastation and chaos across the North of England and parts of Scotland. With the fall of France and Norway, Hitler had a convenient launch pad to turn Britain into a “garden of ruin”. Industrial areas and factories producing war materials were targeted by the bombers but nothing it would seem could dampen the people’s spirits or the munitions workers determination to keep Britain armed.

The aerial bombing in the summer of 1943 devastated the people, port and buildings of Hamburg, reducing a once prosperous city to nothing more than a pile of ashes. Whilst Allied bombers pounded the city, the terrified citizens took cover in cellars and purpose-built bomb shelters, in hopes of enduring the raids. Survivors emerged to find their city engulfed in flames, in what was to become known as the Hamburg Firestorm. With the level of destruction; culture and architecture being completely destroyed, the city was never to recover to its former glory. Such was the nature of the onslaught that scars of the aftermath of the bombings still remain to this day.

As the Second World War progressed, the race for scientific intelligence, secrecy and detection brought a new dimension to warfare. The pilot-less flying bomb, or V1, emerged as the first of Hitler’s new weapons, and for a brief but terrifying period rained death and destruction on the south of England until the RAF and anti-aircraft gunners learnt to counter the terrible “Doodlebug”. With Allies closing in from the West and the Eastern Front crumbling, Hitler realised Germany was losing the war and his response was to give top priority to the V2. Pioneered by Werner Von Braun, it was one of the greatest advances in the technology of warfare. Capable of being launched from anywhere, Hitler pinned his hopes on this early rocket, but the V2 had come too late, draining Germany’s resources and ultimately failing to alter the course of Hitler’s war. Against the background of the famous campaigns which led to his eventual defeat, this DVD shows spectacular archive footage of Hitler’s secret armoury as it was being developed, tested and finally used in anger.
