First adopted by the Nazi party in 1920, the swastika had ancient roots in the religious cults of India and Tibet. This unique documentary explores its adoption by European occultists and the subsequent transformations of this symbol of good fortune into an infamous emblem of terror.

An account of all the major fleet-versus-fleet actions during the conflict, when the world’s largest navies sent their flagship aircraft carriers and their carrier borne aircraft into battle with one another. Most of these battles were fought with neither side ever coming into visual contact with each other. Battles fought between the allied British and American carriers against the Japanese Imperial Fleet. Battles such as the Coral Sea, Midway and the Marianas “Turkey Shoot”. Also included are the battles fought by the British carriers against the German battleship “Bismark” along with the Japanese Kamikaze attacks on British and American Carriers

“A tireless fighter in the cause of the Fuehrer and the Reich” So said General Von Runstedt of Erwin Rommel, Germany’s most gifted general and one of the most distinguished and respected soldiers of the Twentieth Century. For his inspired leadership of the Afrika Corps, he would forever be known by friend and foe alike as the Desert Fox. Rommel showed early signs of this potential when, in 1915, he earned the coveted Iron Cross 1st Class for an audacious battlefield action. Early 1940 found him waist-deep in the River Meuse, heading the 7th Panzer “Ghost Division” in Belgium. Rommel would never ask his troops to do what he himself would not. Using revolutionary tactics, he rewrote the rules of tank warfare and many times overcame superior odds. But it was at the head of Panzer Group Afrika - The famed Afrika Corps - that Rommel shaped history, single-handedly revering the course of the North African war. In a theatre were the elements also constituted a very real enemy, Rommel remained one step ahead of both adversaries until El Alamein. After failing to persuade Hitler to abandon the doomed Fortress Europe strategy, Rommel took poison when he was implicated in a murder plot to save his leader the embarrassment of public trail - a noble end to a legendary career. They story of that career is told here using rare archive footage, much of which has been unavailable in the West since World War II.

This aircraft was undoubtedly the finest warplane ever produced by Germany and from the moment it entered the theatre of war, the FW 190 achieved the slim margin of superiority over the RAF aircraft in fighter versus fighter combat. In the ground attack role, it subsequently proved it’s ability to absorb considerable punishment and in return deliver a more then powerful punch.

RAF Coastal Command is perhaps the lesser known of Britain’s wartime RAF Commands, with the Fighter and Bomber Squadrons making most of the headlines. The tasks faced by Coastal Command however were gigantic. These ranged from Submarine hunting to convoy protection, attacks on enemy shipping and U-boat pens to reconnaissance, mine laying to air-sea rescue. The maritime air war called for men of unusual skills and rare patience, often spending 20 hours or more on a mission. It has been said that without the destructive power of the bombers and fighters, the Allies might not have achieved victory. Without the patient, dogged devotion to duty of the coastal crews, Britain would never have survived to achieve that victory.
