In October 2011, Olympus Corporation, a multi-billion dollar Japanese optical company, dismissed its president and CEO, British-born Michael Woodford, over cultural differences in management style. Japanese media dutifully reported the dismissal with minimum coverage, another foreign CEO failing to adapt to the Japanese way. But international media reported a brewing scandal where Japanese board members of the company unanimously voted to dismiss Woodford for blowing the whistle on a 1.7 billion dollar fraud that the 93-year-old Japanese company had kept secret for more than two decades. Film-maker Hyoe Yamamoto unravels the events that led to one of the most mystifying corporate scandals in the world.

Crockett and Jones is one of only five remaining family-owned and run shoemakers in England, still manufacturing its shoes entirely in England. It is an official partner with the James Bond franchise, dressing 007 in the last three films. But there's no time to waste in coming up with the next big design. Their mission is to stay traditional, while fighting the growth of the casual market and keeping the business going for the next generations of their family and of the shoemakers who rely on them. In the 19th century there were over 250 shoemakers in Northampton. Now there are just seven shoe factories left in the town. This fifth-generation firm is one of them. It employs specialist workers, some of whom have been with the company for decades, meaning a family atmosphere runs through the whole factory.

Next month’s Beijing summer games have been dubbed the ‘genocide Olympics’ by Hollywood campaigners who accuse China of supplying the Sudanese government with arms to enable it to wage a campaign of violence in Darfur. Steven Spielberg recently cut his ties with the Olympics over the issue.

Now, after months investigating China’s covert arms trade, Hilary Andersson provides the first evidence of how China is arming Sudan’s killers, all for the sake of oil. A Panorama team follows a trail through Chad and Darfur, tracking down Chinese military trucks which, with mounted Chinese guns, had recently been used against civilians. Panorama also establishes that China is currently training fighter pilots who fly Chinese built and maintained fighter jets that have been used in recent attacks in a conflict which has now cost an estimated 300,000 lives.
