　　滨海堤坝横贯滨海水道河口，是新加坡第十五大水库，也是首个建在市中心的水库。滨海堤坝汇水区面积1万亩，相当于新加坡总面积的六分之一，是那里最大的，也是最城市化的汇水区域。滨海堤坝，再加上另外两个水库，将会使新加坡的淡水汇集面积从相当于国土面积的二分之一扩大到三分之二。新加坡内阁资政李光耀先生早在二十年前就提出了在滨海水道入口处筑坝，修建一个淡水水库。这就是今天的滨海堤坝。
