Lone predators have developed an amazing range of means to survival. The speed of cheetah, snake venom and the ability of leopard to lie in ambush are examples of refined instincts needed when hunting alone.

Predators and catch use large numbers of clever ways to trick each other. They include misrepresentation, nets and traps. Players in this game of death are praying mantis, shooter fish, mastophoreae-cross spider and stalking squids.

Group hunting guarantees catch, and living in community is favourable basis for defense . In this episode we will see the life of plundering lions, hyenas and wild dogs in packs, as well as potential preys like bulls, meerkats and puffins.

All sea creatures have developed their own ways to kill and to avoid being killed. Beside visual, hearing and smelling sense there are also specific ways for species such as dolphins sonar to find hidden fish, or angel shark’s cunning disguise.

Predatory birds are the most powerful and skilled beasts in the sky. Each species has its own way to obtain meals. Curved beak, claws to kill and a great vision are only part of their arsenal of deadly weapons.

Lion is arguably the most important predator in the African savannah. But among them the female lion is the one who works as a killing machine. Female lions namely will do most of the hunting, and beside their herd the hyenas, wild dogs and vultures enjoy the results also.

The river is the focal point of all life. But there where is life is also dying, and beneath the river surface the battle between preys and predators continues all the time. We will follow the North American otters and bears hunting for salmon below the melting ice, and we see how the South American piranha gets wild at carcass.

Poisonous scorpions … spiders with big claws … myriapods … armored insects … Here are just some of the crawling creatures that stalk prey in the shadows beneath and around our feet.

Nocturnal creatures are having an arms race. Their weapons are not offensive or defensive, but an espionage equipment. Some use night vision and take full advantage of the moon and the stars in low light, while others use a fine- tuned smell and touch senses. There are animals whose ears are more sensitive than any microphone and the creatures who observe their surroundings with three-dimensional sonars or electro-magnetic sensors. Some even produce light: a trap that attracts their prey to death.

We will see the lives of sharks both as predators and prey. Amount of shark species is enormous, and they are amazingly different in shapes, sizes, and each species of sharks have their own way to live and work. We look sharks as skillful predator and keen opportunist, as well expose the secrets of these misunderstood predators which often are considered as evil.

We look at the animals that kill representatives of their own species. The story begins with chickens which barely after hatching from egg begin the struggle of life. As the animal grows the battle continues: food, power, possibility to copulate. Any of these fights may end in death. The circle is rotated back: male may kill their partners offspring to get mating. But not all the animals are violent. At the end of the program we visit communities which instead killing their own species rather live in perfect harmony, where males and females, adults and offspring, brothers and sisters work together.

Tyrannosaurus rex, “Terrible Lizard King”, lives in our imagination as the greatest beast ever to have walked on Earth’s surface. Maybe it’s good that T. rex is extinct, but many still existing animals have ancestors who passed the same terrain with this monstrous predator. Many of them have fared well and are equally adept predators as carnivore dinosaurs once were. Which ones are the real heirs of the king’s crown? In this detective story we are tracing the closest surviving offspring of this remarkable beast. And the results are amazing.

Every day and every moment the people who live close to wild animals are likely to face a sudden and violent death. The chance to die at wild animals jaws is very small, but it does little to comfort the victims. This film examines this serious matter lightly, and it raises some very difficult questions. The program is like a trial, where the animal kingdom is being investigated by people, and where several killers can present a defense speech.

Morgan Spurlock begins the series by touching down in sunny Florida. He is traveling to meet Billy Mitchell, star of Seth Gordon’s cult documentary “King of Kong.” Billy is the controversial gamer whom everybody loves to hate, a man of legendary bravado and mullet, a genius of the joystick. But what effect did the film have on his life? Did he mind being cast as the baddie? And is he still the king of “Donkey Kong”? Morgan is on his way to find out.

But before he gets there, Morgan counts down from No. 50 to 41, gaining insights from a range of directors and commentators, including Kevin Macdonald; Jeffrey Blitz; Seth Gordon; Stacy Peralta; Rob Epstein and Jeffrey Friedman; Donna DeLory; Alex Gibney; Brian Graden; Nanette Burstein; and Henry Rollins.

Rural Missouri is the location for this episode in which Morgan Spurlock cruises past the farms and fields on his way to meet Levi O’Brien, young preacher and star of Heidi Ewing and Rachel Grady’s controversial hit “Jesus Camp.”

The film examined the hysterical (in several senses) antics at Pastor Becky Fisher’s evangelical children’s summer camp where the kids were encouraged to speak in tongues and told that Harry Potter was the devil. Fisher was widely criticized in the aftermath and the camp (temporarily) closed. But what about the kids? The documentary is now five years old and Levi in his late-teens. Morgan ventures into the world of Christian fundamentalism to find out.

Notable interviewees include Penelope Spheeris; Alex Gibney; Joe Berlinger & Bruce Sinofsky; Al Gore; Stacy Peralta; Heidi Ewing and Rachel Grady; Nick Broomfield; Luc Jacquet; Tony Hawk; Jared Leto; and Aisha Tyler.

Renowned documentarian and host Morgan Spurlock continues to count down the 50 most powerful, provocative and moving documentaries from the past 25 years. As Spurlock travels across America in search of modern documentary’s most iconic directors and eccentric characters, he reveals films number 30 through 21 and motors through the deserts of California. In Los Angeles, he finally meets up with mercurial Mr. Brainwash from Banksy’s hit film “Exit Through the Gift Shop” (2010) all in an effort to find out whether he is real or an elaborate art hoax.

Spurlock kicks off this leg of his journey with Michael Moore, who talks about what drove him to make the box office hit “Fahrenheit 9/11.” From there, he interviews other top filmmakers along the way, including Henry Rollins, Joan Churchill, Brian Graden, and ‘Exit’ producer Jaimie D’Cruz.

Morgan Spurlock nears the top films as he continues to count down the 50 most powerful, provocative and moving documentaries from the past 25 years. As Spurlock travels across America in search of modern documentary’s most compelling directors and iconic subjects, he heads to Pittsburgh to find out if the transvestite ball scene, so memorably captured in the 1990 cult film “Paris Is Burning” is still raging in all its voguing, pose-striking glory.

Along the road, he interviews some of the countdown’s top filmmakers and authors, including Nick Broomfield, Jared Leto, and Aisha Tyler.

Morgan Spurlock finally reaches the top 10 films on the list of “50 Documentaries to See Before You Die.” After weeks spent traveling across America in search of modern documentary’s most iconic directors and compelling subjects, Spurlock ends his journey in Illinois. There he meets Steve James, the director of “Hoop Dreams,” along with the film’s stars Arthur Agee and William Gates to talk about what made the documentary memorable.

Notable interviewees include: Al Gore; Michael Moore; Errol Morris; D. A. Pennebaker and Chris Hegedus; Rob Epstein and Jeffrey Friedman; Tony Hawk and Jack Osbourne.

Art writer Waldemar Januszczak explores the revolutionary achievements of the Impressionists. As the name suggests Waldemar Januszczak’s aim is to show that despite appearing on chocolate boxes and tea towels the impressionists’ art was and still is pretty revolutionary. Despite veering into gimmickry from time to time the series covers the ground well. The last episode, in which he considers the optical theories underlying Seurat’s dottiness and how Monet’s cataracts affected his vision, is perhaps the best of the lot.

In the first episode, Waldemar delves into the back stories of four of the most influential Impressionists - Pissarro, Monet, Renoir and Bazille - who together laid the foundations of the artistic movement. He finds out what social and cultural influences drove them to their style of painting, how they were united and how ultimately they challenged and changed art forever. Waldemar journeys from the shores of the West Indies, to the progressive city of Paris to the suburbs of South London, where these four artists drew inspiration from the cities and towns in which they lived. He discovers how the Impressionists broke conventions by depicting every day encounters within the unpredictable and ever changing sights around them.

Waldemar Januszczak continues his investigation of the Impressionists by taking us outdoors to their most famous locations. Although Impressionist pictures often look sunny and relaxed, achieving this peaceful air was hard work. Trudging through fog, wind and rain, across treacherous coastal rocks and knee-deep snow, Waldemar shows us how the famous spontaneity of the Impressionists is thoroughly misleading. This episode visits the French riverside locations that Monet loved to paint, and where Renoir captured the bonhomie of modern life. Waldemar also introduces a number of technical and practical developments of the age which completely revolutionised Impressionist painting - the invention of portable easels; the use of hog’s hair in paint brushes; as well as the introduction of the railway through France. Plus, Januszczak explains Cezanne’s part in the Impressionist story.

Waldemar Januszczak continues his investigation of the Impressionists, focusing on the people they painted and in particular the subjects of Degas, Caillebotte and the often forgotten Impressionist women artists. The Impressionists are famous for painting landscape but they were just as determined to paint people. Looking closely at the work of Edgar Degas, Waldemar reveals how he consistently challenged traditions and strove to record real life as it appeared in the city. Waldemar also reveals the unusual viewpoints and dramatic perspectives of Caillebotte’s paintings from the Place de L’Europe and the rebellious and revolutionary art of Morisot, Bracquemond and Cassatt, three impressive female artists who were eagerly embraced by the progressive movement of Impressionism.

This episode takes a closer look at the late years of Impressionism, using the last show these artists did together as a starting point. Waldemar looks in considerable depth at the work of Georges Seurat, taking into consideration his academic training at the Beaux-Arts School in Paris and the artists that influenced him, such as Piero della Francesca and Puvis de Chavannes. There is also an insight into the complex but fascinating world of optics and art, and the ways in which the Impressionists were using the new discoveries in light and eyesight to influence their work. Van Gogh’s time in Paris, a period very little is known about, is also covered, charting the incredible journey the artist made from his brown and dull canvases to the splendid colour and light that pervaded his work on the cusp of his departure for the South of France. The film finishes with a revisiting of Monet and his later waterlily paintings in the Orangerie in Paris.

Architecture critic Tom Dyckhoff explores the impact the design of buildings can have on us - on our identity and self-esteem, and on relationships, our chances at school, and even our weight and immune system

Dyckhoff explores how the design of our homes works secretly to influence our behaviour. Light, room size, layout, proportion and materials all have measurable effects on our lives.

So why do we accept the smallest windows and the smallest room sizes in Europe? And what can we do about it?

Our workplace - from schools to offices and factories - should inspire us, motivate us and bring out the best of our abilities. But are these spaces doing just the opposite?

Tom Dyckhoff makes some revelatory and shocking discoveries about how the buildings in which we spend our working life can physically change our brain, and shows why open-plan offices are bad spaces to work in.

Armed with this new knowledge, Dyckhoff meets and challenges pre-eminent architects including Norman Foster and Zaha Hadid to re-evaluate their creations.

He brings them face-to-face with the people who use their buildings every day. He even tries working in their buildings himself while taking part in an experiment to measure the impact on his brain.

What do the results show about working in these spaces? Have we become so obsessed with iconic exteriors that we’ve stopped thinking about the people inside them?

And is it possible to design a building that makes us feel happy while making us more productive too?

Tom Dyckhoff looks at how we’re affected by the design of buildings we visit in our leisure time. He argues that architects are now designing buildings that are all about spectacle and cheap thrills (however expensive to build), and have forgotten the true purpose of ‘play’: to bring people together for a communal experience.

From shopping malls to football stadiums and museums, Tom discovers how important play is in our lives and argues controversially that, ever since the commercial success of the Guggenheim in Bilbao, the buildings we’re being given to play in are damaging us.

With their increasingly crazy, computer-designed looks, they may seem playful, but these individualistic, flashy, narcissistic icons produce an increasingly alienating and fragmented landscape where we feel less joined up and less playful, and make less sense of our world, not more.
