Three-part series presented by Rageh Omaar which charts the life of Muhammad.

Rageh Omaar charts the life of Muhammad, a man who - for the billion and half Muslims across the globe - is the messenger and final prophet of God. In a journey that is both literal and historical, and beginning in Muhammad’s birthplace of Mecca, Omaar investigates the Arabia Muhammad was born into - a world of tribal loyalties and polytheistic religion. Drawing on the expertise and comment of some of the world’s leading academics and commentators on Islam, the programme examines Muhammad’s first marriage to Khadijah and how he received the first of the revelations that had such a profound effect both on his life, and on the lives of those closest to him.

Rageh Omaar continues to chart the story of The Prophet Muhammad. Drawing on the expertise and comment from some of the world’s leading academics and commentators on Islam, Omaar assesses and shines a light on key events in Muhammad’s life including the Night Journey to Jerusalem, his life threatening departure from Mecca, through to the establishment of the Constitution of Medina and the eight year war with the Meccan tribes. In line with Islamic tradition the programme does not depict any images of the face of Muhammad, or feature any dramatic re-constructions of Muhammad’s life.

In the final episode, presenter Rageh Omaar continues to chart the story of The Prophet Muhammad. Drawing on the expertise and comment from some of the world’s leading academics and commentators on Islam, Omaar analyses and investigates key events during the later part of his life, including the introduction of a moral code known as Sharia and the concept of jihad. The programme also explores Muhammad’s use of marriage to build alliances and looks at the key messages included in his final sermon. In line with Islamic tradition the programme does not depict any images of the face of Muhammad, or feature any dramatic re-constructions of Muhammad’s life.

Only the most charismatic are known by just one name. Known to his adoring public simply as ‘Seve’, Severiano Ballesteros took the world of golf by storm and transcended the sport, with his magnetic personality and sublime skill.

Presented by Gary Lineker, this heart-warming tribute celebrates Seve’s life and features exclusive footage of the man himself.

Handsome, flamboyant and passionate, Seve strode the fairways for 30 years. He won the greatest honours in the game including three Open Championships and two Masters titles, often playing miraculous escape shots that held galleries in awe, from St Andrews to Augusta.

He became a European talisman in the Ryder Cup, on the winning side four times as a player, and memorably, once as a captain on the Spanish course of Valderrama.

Tragically at the age of just 54, Seve lost his painful battle with brain cancer earlier this year. His foundation had already raised millions for cancer charities, ensuring his legacy will live on.

Featuring contributions from Jack Nicklaus, Tiger Woods, Rafa Nadal, Jose Maria Olazabal, Sir Nick Faldo, Colin Montgomerie, Greg Norman, HRH Prince Andrew , Sir Bruce Forsyth, Des Lynam and Peter Alliss.

Geologic Journey Season 2 will change the way you look at the world. In each episode, we dive straight into the Earth’s mysterious geologic processes – and explore both science and legend as we seek to understand and explain the geologic forces that shape our world, and our lives. With Dr. Nick Eyles of the University of Toronto Scarborough as our guide, this five-part documentary series will reveal the Earth’s magnificent power and its breathtaking beauty. Geologic Journey Season 2 takes us to some of our planet’s most dangerous and dynamic places, and helps explain how they got that way. From some of the highest mountaintops to the lowest salt plains, and from the center of violent volcanoes to the deep trenches beneath the ocean floor, Geologic Journey II travels with some of the world’s most outstanding geologists as they decipher the mysteries of the earth’s evolution. Combining stunning HD pictures and beautiful aerial photography, this series gives the audiences a connection to their surroundings like never before. Geologic Journey Season 2 captures a world being torn apart by the very plates that connect it.

In this episode, we will traverse the Eurasian plate across Europe —from Iceland, where new land is formed - to the Alps, where old land is destroyed. In between viewers will witness the twisted, gorgeous landscapes of the earth’s surface under pressure—places where scientists first came up with the very study of geology itself, where geology became the science that changed the world. Viewers will trek with University of Toronto geology professor Dr. Nick Eyles and his guides through volcanoes, glaciers, crags, mountains, rolling hills and broken cliffs that reveal the tectonic story of the earth.

In the second episode of Geologic Journey: II, Along the Rift, we reveal how the earth’s crust is ripping apart, as molten rock from deep within its recesses pushes upwards. For millions of years the East African Rift has been widening at the seams, tearing the African plate in two. We’ll first visit prehistoric sites in Kenya, not far from the so-called “cradle of humanity.” Along the Rift will reveal that we are truly creatures conceived by plate tectonics. We’ll visit Ethiopia’s Afar Triangle, where the Earth is fundamentally re-ordering its surface, and journey to Egypt’s Nile valley, which has been a corridor of trade and a cradle of civilizations for centuries. On the final leg of the journey, we’ll witness how the tectonic violence of the Dead Sea Rift has punctuated the history of human habitation and culture – in fact, entire cities have been abandoned after apocalyptic earthquakes. The seismic threat hangs over the area like a curse.

Prof. Nick Eyles will travel along the west coast of North America, in The Pacific Rim: The Americas. Following the shore, we’ll travel from Alaska to California to Chile discovering how tectonic rhythms threaten the people living along the two continents’ coastlines.

The Forth episode focuses on the Asia-Pacific side of The Pacific Rim of Fire, which stands as a living testament to the beauty and danger that powerful geologic forces can deliver. The Pacific Rim is home to half of the world’s active volcanoes and ninety percent of the world’s earthquakes, yet nearly 800 million people continue to live within its violent edge. Our journey begins in New Zealand, a land of volcanoes and earthquakes, where we find a 500-kilometre long slip-strike fault deep under the Pacific Ocean. Geologist Hamish Campbell will take us to the crater of White Island, the country’s most active volcano. Then we’ll visit the country’s southern island with John Youngson, to find out how New Zealand’s longest fault-line contributes to the gold industry. Finally in Japan, viewers will hike up to Mount Fuji – the iconic peak where science and legend converge, getting up-close and personal with a fault-line witnessing firsthand what it’s like to discover new ways of monitoring, and hopefully one day predicting, seismic activity onboard the world’s most advanced drilling vessels.

Welcome to the Collision Zone – the fiery unpredictability of Indonesia’s volcanoes at one end, the massive Himalayas at the other and millions of years of tectonic tension in between. The collision zone of the old world is about to be the hub of the new. India, the Himalayas and the island arc of Indonesia

  • these lands will form the centre of the world’s next supercontinent. A story unfolds—a tale of where the earth has been and what the earth shall be: a whole new world that we’ll barely recognize.

Imagine a world where North America and Africa are one super-continent, where a mountain range the size of the Himalayas covers the Great Lakes region, and the tropical saltwater sea covers the ground. This is Canada, our land - in another time. What do we really know about the history of the earth below our feet? Geologic Journey blends modern science, spectacular footage and animation, and personal stories from people driven by the geologic wonder to document the incredible and sometimes surprising history of Canada’s landscape.

With spectacular aerial photography, Geologic Journey breathes relevance into ancient geology. Featuring renowned scientists, advanced scientific research and specially designed animation, the series traces the extraordinary history of our continent to show that the new world is in fact very, very old.

Discover the roots of a long vanished mountain range, explore the remains of an inland tropical sea and trace the story of a dramatic flood.

An ever-changing landmass, geologists are learning how the Rockies were formed and discovering what they will become.

The largest - and one of the oldest - expanses of ancient rock on the planet has riches of gold and diamonds under it’s crust.

These fabled mountains contain a geologic puzzle, a rich legacy, and the scarcely known threat of earthquakes.

The dramatic story of volcanic outpourings, massive rifting of continents and the bursting forth of a new ocean - the Atlantic.

Full title This Green and Pleasant Land: The Story of British Landscape Painting

Documentary which takes an eclectic group, including artists, critics and academics, into the countryside to look at how we have depicted our landscape in art, discovering how the genre carried British painting to its highest eminence and won a place in the nation’s heart. From Flemish beginnings in the court of Charles I to the digital thumbstrokes of David Hockney’s iPad, the paintings reveal as much about the nation’s past as they do the patrons and artists who created them. Famous names sit alongside lesser-known works, covering everything from the refined sensibilities of 18th-century Classicism to the abstract forms of the war-torn 20th century, with a bit of love, loss, rivalry and rioting thrown in. Contributions come from a cast as diverse as the works themselves, including filmmaker Nic Roeg, historian Dan Snow and novelist Will Self.

In 2008 he received the biggest commission of his career - to paint the largest-ever crowd scene in the history of British art - but the commission is fraught with so much difficulty its completion is in jeopardy from day one. This film follows Peter over two difficult years, a journey that took him to the brink of bankruptcy, and also to the edge of his sanity.
