The programme explores the theory of ‘punctuated equilibrium’ which attempts to explain the fact that the fossil evidences shows species that survived unchanged for years, most eventually becoming extinct, but some suddenly becoming new creatures.

Of course, Darwin’s theory has been under attack from Creationists for a long time. Even some scientists have doubts about a gradual evolutionary process resulting in the survival of the fittest and most successful form.
