In 1940, the RAF’s supply of US aircraft had been sunk at sea by relentless German U-boats. The only solution was to fly the planes across the unforgiving Atlantic. A call for experienced civilian pilots for a secret operation went out. The benefits were irresistible: a vital job, a chance to fly the latest aircraft, and a large paycheck; but the risks were colossal. This is one of the great unknown stories of WWII and of aviation history.
