It explains the reasons for US involvement in a war so far from their home borders and what they aim to achieve through both military and civil action. THE SCREAMING EAGLES IN VIETNAM Officially known as the 101st Airborne Division, the ‘Screaming Eagles’ have a much deserved reputation as an awesome fighting force. In this programme we spend time with the men on manoeuvres including their involvement in Operation Hawthorn. READY TO STRIKE When the 25th Infantry Division arrived in Vietnam in 1966 their mission was like none they had experienced before. The men of ‘Tropic Lightning’ soon realised that fighting the enemy was only part of their objective and off the battlefield their was another task to be fulfilled - rebuilding a nation and helping those unwilling victims of the conflict.
