Military documentary narrated by Ian Lavender and looking at the history of Britain’s Home Guard units during the Second World War. Although made figures of fun in the series ‘Dad’s Army’, the Home Guard by 1944 were a million- strong and had been trained to a professional standard. This documentary uses archive footage and interviews to explore the history of the Home Guard, and also includes clips from ‘Dad’s Army’.
