Nova goes down deep to explore the untold stories of submersibles in Nova: Submarines, Secrets and Spies. For decades, the exploits of underwater soldiers were strictly hush-hush owing to the highly sensitive nature of their work. But since the end of the Cold War, information has become declassified. Oceanographer Robert Ballard accompanies Nova as it explores the fascinating world of espionage and submarine technology. Some of the footage has never been aired before and shows the real circumstances behind catastrophic wrecks. The Thresher and Scorpion both crashed during the Cold War, leaving no clues as to their true missions. Nova uncovers tales of tragedy that, until now, were never known, giving these faceless explorers the final word.
