THE FIGHTING LADY The Classic Colour Documentary The Fighting Lady focuses on action aboard a typical “flat top” on station in the pacific. There is plenty of air combat - some of the best camera footage ever - filmed as it happened. You know it is for real when the cameraman has to hit the deck. The Fighting Lady in reality was a number of U.S. aircraft carriers - USS Lexington, USS Yorktown and USS Enterprise amongst others have been identified. Ceretainly it was the Americans’ commitments to the aircraft carrier, the technical superiority of their aircraft and the skill and gallantry of Navy pilots that ensured final victory against Japan. You will go with the carrier pilots as they battle over the Pacific in their Hellcats, TD-2’s, Hell Divers, Avengers, F4F-1’s and many more aircraft. Be with them as they confront and destroy the Imperial Japanese Navy for the controol of pacific. You will hear the pilots tell their story and see the most dramatic gun camera action ever recorded by US Navy pilots in World War II.

This is a PAL DVD and will not play in the United States or Canada.As Japan stubbornly clung to the idea of victory at the end of the Second World War, the people of Hiroshima and Nagasaki could have had no idea that the cities in which they lived would become the targets of a new and devastating weapon - the atomic bomb. With the use of wartime archive footage and American military film the effects of the bomb on the towns and people are examined as well as a brief look at how the US prepared themselves for the real possibility of an atomic attack on home soil.

PROGRESS TO PEACE Narrated by Raymond Burr, this documentary analyses the withdrawal of US troops from Vietnam and the slow but vital process of the South Vietnamese taking control of their country. Self-government, self- defence and self-development are the keys points promoted as a nation attempts to dust off the destruction of war. THE UNIQUE WAR The Vietnam War provided US troops with a battle zone unfamiliar for many reasons. The lack of a defined front line, the jungle conditions and an enemy proficient in guerrilla warfare were new foes which had to be overcome in order to survive. There were also non-military differences than those conditions experienced in previous wars, as US troops embarked on a large scale operation to support the South Vietnamese people and an all encompassing civil action plan.

ANOTHER DAY OF WAR The day of a United States Air Force soldier during the Vietnam conflict was anything but routine, as the chaos of war ensured an unpredictable 24 hours. In this documentary we examine the daily roles of a handful of these men including engineers, ground staff, flight crews and those from help and rescue. THE SPARROW HAWKS Few jobs in the United States Air Force could have the uncertainty or danger than that of the forward air controller, a man whose job it was to fly low over uncharted territories and locate a hostile enemy intent on remaining undiscovered. Once an enemy was detected a flare was sent to pinpoint their location, for further ground or air troops to move in. THE AIR MOBILE DIVISION In 1965 the 1st Cavalry Division Air Mobile were deployed to Vietnam. Known as the ‘Sky Troopers’, this programme examines the inner workings of the division covering their main mission objectives, the division structure and the logistics involved in keeping them fighting.

Aircraft carriers, destroyers, helicopter gunships and amphibious landing craft are but a few of the many weapons at their disposal but they also provided medical care, troop support and countless other duties during the conflict. A DAY IN VIETNAMFrom an early morning briefing to a search and rescue mission, spend a unique day with the Navy Marine Corp during the Vietnam War. Skilled in jungle and guerrilla warfare the VC held an advantage over their formidable enemy, local knowledge. This documentary consists of rare Viet Cong footage showing their movements during the war highlighting their combat tactics. P.O.W: A REPORT ON CAPTIVITY IN SOUTHEAST ASIA 1964 - 1973 For many US soldiers their tour of duty ended not with a flight home, injury or death but with capture and the terror of an unknown future. This film examines the plight of POWs during the Vietnam War with a look at the conditions of captivity, the various camps erected for holding of prisoners and the brave attempts to escape. CONTACT! Within days of arriving in Vietnam it became apparent to all new soldiers that this war was different to any fought previously. The enemy were skilled, ingenious and willing to die for their cause, a combination that amounts to a very formidable foe. Ambushes, booby-traps and trip wires were standard weapons in the VC s armoury and extremely effective ones.

THE BATTLE OF KHE SANH - Perhaps the most famous battle of the war, this programme tells the story as 6000 defenders successfully repulsed 20,000 North Vietnamese troops from capturing a strategically important military base. A bloody and fiercely fought encounter, the fighting lasted 70 days and nights until the North Vietnamese slowly sunk back into the jungles they had emerged from.

KHE SANH - VICTORY FOR AIR POWER - Whilst no one will deny the ferocity of the fighting on the ground during the Battle of Khe Sanh, another conflict was taking place in the skies above the besieged base. US air power played a fundamental role in supplying the base with essentials, evacuating the wounded and as a part of a strategic bombing plan that brought victory to the Americans.

THE BATTLE - Khe Sanh was but one battle in the Vietnam War and in this bonus programme we examine the roles of the US Marines during other engagements including Operation Piranha, a four day search and destroy mission.
